This project has been quite a journey for my sixth grade students. Every year, our sixth grade dedicates a piece of art work to our school. It is called their Legacy Project. This year, I saw the article for the Peace Poles in the School Arts magazine, and I knew this was the project for us!
I was given permission to change the idea slightly. My students worked in teams of three to create five Peace Poles. They chose their languages, copied, traced, and painted. They also added flowing designs at the top and bottom. The Peace Poles were attached to a base and each pole spins so all the languages can be easily seen.
The project turned out just like I imagined! I am very proud of my students and their hard work. The Peace Pole Project will go on display in our school lobby for everyone to see and spin! Pam Mandell - Andrews Academy, St. Louis, MO. Pam Mandell's 6th Grade Class, Spring 2014
